Silent Night Memoria

Silent Night Memorial Chapel...the village church in Oberndorf, Austria where "Silent Night" was first performed on Christmas Eve 1818 was torn down due to flood damage in the early 1900's. This chapel was built on the site. Every Christmas Eve a service is held here, and "Silent Night" is performed as it originally was, accompanied by guitar. It is first sung in the original German, then everyone in attendance joins in the singing in their own language.

We continued on the Deer Creek trail to the Esplanade..." more at link.

Spending the night i

Spending the night in the Sahara Desert is utterly mind bending. The camel ride out can be a bit awkward and contrived, but once you are out there, surrounded by miles of sand dunes that change color with the position of the sun, you forget you are on a tour, and simply settle in. Guides make traditional tagine dinner in a camp made of old carpets and make shift tents. We chose to sleep under the stars. The moon was so bright, it woke me...
