Point Bonita Lighthouse, Marin County, California - This house is part of the Point Bonita Lighthouse, which stands at the end of San Francisco Bay. Apparently it was the last manned lighthouse on the California coast, and I admire the willpower of the people that did man the station because it couldn't have been easy! Even on this gorgeous day in April, the wind was whipping through and the power of the Pacific smashing into the Marin Headlands was a sight to be seen. To get to the lighthouse, you have to walk steeply downhill, through a tunnel, around a cliff, and then across a bridge. As daunting as that sounds, it couldn't have been more than a 1/2 mile from the car park. Unfortunately, as the lighthouse is still active, it is only open to visitors between 12.30-3.30pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. We just happened to be lucky enough to stumble upon in between those times! You can still visit Point Bonita outside of those times. The tunnel will be closed, but you'll still be able to see the gorgeous landscape on the track before that, including sweeping views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. My parents even saw a coyote on the track!
